Tourism professionals  became a little optimistic when the lock down ended. The domestic flights have started flying to some selective places. Same applies for the International flights.  But, Covid 19 is not finished yet , on the contrary it is growing and likely to stay for some time for sure. 

If people here follow discipline, it will not take long to bring it under control. On the contrary, while buying vegetables in the market , grocery shop , strolling in the garden or walking on the road we can see people not following the basic rules of social distancing. Some people feel so much blessed by the almighty that they do not bother to wear the mask properly. The fundamental thought - If your life is  important so is others, has been ignored.

As a Travel Professional,  we are in a Fix !!!

Currently bus and train services are not operational. But you can definitely go there in your own car or on a bike. The service providers are fully prepared to welcome you. Your safety is their priority. They are equipped with thermal guns, foot operated sanitizer stands and the masks/shield for safety today. But, be prepared with your own sanitizers for your own safety. Be aware about the social distancing  norms to follow and proper wearing the face masks.

Today it has become mandatory for both  the guest and the service provider to take care of each other.

Trek , bird watching , jungle walk , soft adventure activities, boat ride in the jungle all that can be enjoyed with family is being offered . In the current scenario, there will be  many takers for Agri-tourism. Families can enjoy the day stay on a farm and enjoy the fresh  cooked food during the stay. There will be activities to choose at the farm like vegetable transplanting, fruit picking, fishing at the pond, enjoying a bullock cart ride, milking of cows etc.

  

The safety of the guests is important , but , how can you keep aside the  fear for  travelling ?

This is the question we all have to face in the coming months when things ease out…hopefully !!!

Today, some hotels / resorts have come up with educating videos to let customers know how they are prepared to take care of their safety. The contact less booking of the room on the App, employees welcome guests wearing face mask /face shields, they take your temperature with thermal gun, also sanitize / disinfect your bags contact less check in of the guests,  the person at the reception counter, wearing hand gloves, hand handing over keys of the room,  the room is sanitized carefully in accordance with the present new rules,  the social distancing norms are followed while you have the supper, the kitchen staff and the hotel staff are well trained to handle the guests, the activities are contact less, the checkout is also through the App.

The  number one  company in the resort membership segment have their properties at some of the most enviable scenic locations throughout  India and ready to entertain the guests.  As on date the 20 resorts have begun welcoming the guests. It’s definitely a positive sign!!!

How we can remove  the fear  in the mind of the guests when everything is ready ?

The coming months will be the test of patience for all of us. It may still take an year and a half. But one cannot run away from the desire to travel. The above options are the safest for all of you. One can fulfill all the desires without bothering anyone in the vicinity of nature.

Looking at the overall trend, people will go for a ride in their own car or bike without relying on anyone. They shall go to forest for a day, enjoy on the farm, go for a trek, there is a growing trend for cycling in the urban area and the number is on the rise. Now everyone is more concerned about the health  and looking at these possibilities, the service providers will need to be more customer oriented in their approach to stay in the business.

There will really be a lot of scope for agri-tourism. If the farmers within a hundred kilometres of Nagpur pay close attention, they will get another option to earn money. Keep the working farm in good condition and at the same time invite the guests on the farm , give them rustic experience, cook for them typical  farm fresh delicacies which one could hardly enjoy in city , teach them how to work in the field, make them aware about the crops and the livestock...... but while doing all this, it is necessary to keep in mind the social distance and hygiene.

Institutions offering soft adventure sports services will be in the forefront. If you can meet the security  safety and hygiene needs  of the guests  you are sure to win the race. We also have good option  where you can camp, enjoy nature along with the soft adventure activities to the fullest……of course, with all safety precautions !!! Rest Assured !!! 

There is a latent demand for camper caravan tourism, where families can be safe while travelling and staying. We are still not prepared on the basic infrastructure of parking of such camping vehicles and the security at these places. Karnataka, Kerala  and Madhya Pradesh have come up with this service through their respective state tourism department. An encouraging sign for the future but the concept is yet to take roots.    

In the last five months  we have witnessed  the good and the bad aspects of nature , all at once at the same time. We were confined at home due to Covid 19, but we also saw the pictures/videos of the  environment getting clearer, pollution reduced, dolphins appearing in the sea just near the coast in Mumbai and many more such welcome changes.

It has also taught us to appreciate the nature, to enjoy the scenic places in a responsible manner !!

The effect of mass tourism has taken its toll. Now, the time has come to enjoy them in a manner so that we only take back memories and at least the same can be enjoyed equally by our future generations. The importance of sustainable tourism is being appreciated. Heritage and Cultural tourism also  fall under this bracket.

Its high time to embrace the idea and let it be the new normal once everything settles down.
