Cu Chi Tunnel Experience
Here’s my travel experience. About 70 km from Ho Chi Minh City, there is a network of Cu Chi tunnels. A Network of tunnels ?? !!! Yes !!! These numerous tunnels bear witness to a bloody history. During the war with the US, the locals built a network of underground tunnels. Surprisingly the network was spread for about 250 km. The tunnels were so well constructed that they could hold military meetings, enough space for cooking meals, living,storing weapons and what not. The US military was not aware of this. By the time they found out, the damage had been done. This fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people forced the United States to withdraw from the war. Ten years of war were going on. The unification of North and South Vietnam took place on April 30, 1975, and the city of Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh. Today, the place attracts tourists as the ‘Cu Chi Tunnel Complex’.
